AI can’t write your resume for you, but it can do this

Issue #26: How to Use AI (the Smart Way) for Your Resume

Let’s be clear: AI won’t magically hand you a perfect resume.

What it can do is act like a sharp assistant that helps you refine, tailor, and speed up the process without losing your personal voice.

Here are three ways to use it intelligently:

Generate Strong Draft Bullet Points

Take your raw notes and ask AI to turn them into scannable, results-driven bullets.

Prompt: “Rewrite this into a resume bullet with an action verb, impact, and metric: Designed onboarding flow that increased activation.”
Output: “Redesigned enterprise onboarding flow, increasing client activation by 15% in 3 months.”*

*ChatGPT will provide metrics, but you should always replace these with your own.

Tailor Your Resume to Each Job

Copy a job description and your current summary into ChatGPT. Then ask: “Highlight the top 5 skills this role emphasizes and suggest adjustments to my summary to reflect them.”

This saves hours while making sure your resume aligns with ATS and resonates with hiring managers.

Tighten Up Language

AI is great at trimming fluff. ChatGPT will preserve meaning in as long or short a format as you like - whether you want a full paragraph or 8 words.

Paste in a long bullet or paragraph and ask: “Make this more concise, clear, and results-oriented in under 20 words.”

Suddenly, your bullets are lean, focused, and powerful.

Important note:

AI is not a replacement for your thinking; rather, a tool to sharpen it. You provide the raw material like projects, outcomes, impact, and AI helps refine the edges.
